Ramadan is a significant month in the Islamic calendar and in Dubai, the period is marked by a host of Ramadan-related activities. Emirati hospitality and traditions are also very evident during this month as iftars are hosted across Dubai and residents of different nationalities come together to share the spirit of Ramadan. The Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing organises numerous events during the month and the retail sector witnesses brisk business.
These activities include the Ramadan Majlis, The 17th Dubai International Holy Quran Award, Fast for a Day, 12th Al Multaqa – Ramadan Forum, Ramadan Scholars and the Ramadan Night Market.
The Dubai World Trade Centre’s Ramadan Majlis celebrates the holy month of Ramadan with distinction. The award winning catering team presents the finest traditional Arabian cuisine and hospitality in a lavish Arabesque setting. Throughout Ramadan, the Sheikh Saeed Hall 3 at the Dubai World Trade Centre will offer a choice of casual lounge areas or exclusive majlises for more private occasions. Offering a choice of à la carte cuisine served in true Ramadan style.
This event features Holy Quran memorisation contests as well as lectures on Islam at various locations across the Emirate aimed at confirming and celebrating Islamic values. Many world-renowned Islamic scholars have been invited to enliven this spiritual month. The event is a chance for non-Muslims to experience the act of fasting and its duties during the month of Ramadan. Hints, facts and tips on fasting will be sent out over a three week period through a social media drive to help participants prepare themselves for the event.
This Ramadan forum is held annually under the patronage of Sheikh Ahmed Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation. This year, the organising committee of the forum have carefully considered and selected a group of prominent speakers and preachers who will be participating in the program. Visitors to the event will be pleased to know that this year, the languages in the proceedings include English, Urdu, Tagalog and Malayalam. The events will take place at the Zabeel Hall, Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Bureau and the below table has all the events occuring during the month of Ramadan and their dates.
The Ramadan Scholars event hosts a group of scholars from the Islamic world with the patron of the event being His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The duration of the speeches are for 90 minutes during the Taraweeh prayers.
Held in Dubai over 10 nights of Ramadan, the Ramadan Night Market will host a number of retailers from across the world, offering a diverse variety of products to a dynamic community from Dubai and the rest of the UAE. People from different parts of the world live and work here, bringing their own cultural heritage to this cosmopolitan city.
